Associates Architects. The firm specializes in Architecture/Historic Preservation

Bero Architecture P.C. is a Rochester-based architecture firm with a specialization
in working with existing buildings. Founded in 1976, the firm has developed a
local, state, and regional reputation for excellence in preservation planning,
building evaluations, restoration and adaptive re-use. The firm provides professional
services for new, rehabilitation, and preservation projects; and for residential,
commercial, industrial and municipal construction. Bero Architecture P.C. also
provides code studies, condition reports, historic structure reports, feasibility
studies, preservation reports, National Register nominations and historic surveys.
The
firm has extensive experience analyzing existing buildings, many of which are
National Register-listed and/or designated local landmarks. Bero Architecture
P.C. offers many different levels of building studies based on needs of the building
and site, the needs of the owner, and the funds available. Since
passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990 our firm has provided many
studies, cost estimates, designs, and construction documents to help owners comply
with the requirements of the Act. EDUCATION
& SPECIALIZED TRAINING: - John Bero, Architect: BA in Architecture, Rensselear
Polytechnic Institute. Field reviewer, Institute of Museum & Library Services
for the 1995 and 1999 grant applicants to the Conservation Project Support program
of Heritage Preservation. Lectures/seminars presented include: "Accessibility
and Historic Preservation" sponsored by the Preservation League of New York State
in Rochester & Tarrytown; "Building for the Arts" at multiple locations, sponsored
by the New York State Council on the Arts and "Making Your Building Accessible"
in Buffalo NY as part of "Caring for Your Religious Properties" sponsored by the
NY Landmarks Conservancy and the Preservation League of NYS. - Michael
Goebel-Bain, Architectural Conservator: MS in Historic Preservation from the University
of Vermont. RECENT
& REPRESENTATIVE CONSULTING WORK: - 2000-Current: Rochester Museum
and Science Center, a natural history & science museum that features a planetarium
and exhibits on natural history, anthropology, local history and astronomy in
Rochester, NY. Evaluation of storage facilities, existing conditions, schematic
design for renovation & reuse. The project was funded by a grant from The Institute
of Museums and Library Services and included collections conservation and climate-contral
consultants. - 1986-Current: The Granger Homestead Society, Inc. Canandaigua
NY. Multiple consultations including handicapped access, building evaluation,
barn evaluation, site & building needs to accommodate expanding carriage collection
and other projects. Currently completing roofing repairs. - 2001-Current:
Genesee Country Village & Museum in Mumford, NY is a restored 19th century village
of 75 buildings that functions as a living history museum with constumed interpreters
and crafts people. John Bero, Architects has provided multiple consultations including
building evaluations, building repairs, bookstore feasibility study and building
restoration; currently, we're completing an ADA survey of the museum complex.
- 1993-Current: The Susan B. Anthony House in Rochester NY is an historic
house museum focused on Anthony's life and her involvement in anti-slavery and
women's rights issues. Work includes multiple consultations including building
evaluation, design of the Visitors Center and climate monitoring and evaluation
in conjunction with Richard Sherin, Director of Conservation at the Strong Museum.
- 1984-Current: The George Eastman House International Museum of Photography
and Film in Rochester NY is a 12-acre estate with formal gardens and a restored
50-room Colonial Revival mansion which houses a large collection of photographs,
film, camera equipment, exhibitions and two on-site theaters. Work includes restoration
of principle rooms and restoration of various landscape structures. - 1982-Current:
The Landmark Society of Western New York based in Rochester, NY is an historic
preservation organization which operates two historic houses and serves as caretaker
for other historic properties in the area. Work includes multiple consultations
regarding the Stone-Tolan House Museum and the Campbell-Whittlesey House Museum,
dealing with building & collection conservation and accessibility. FEE:
$50/hour - $115/hour, depending on staff involved. |
